

Mrs. Hatley was born in Caldwell County on October 14, 1912 to the late Sidney Anderson Icard and Laura Herman Icard. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Troy James Hatley, Sr.; three brothers, Glenn Icard, Calvin Icard and Brantley Icard; a sister, Mary White. She was a retired from Shuford Mills, a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and the first president of the United Methodist Women and was a member of the UMW until health declined the last year. She was also an associate member at Covenant United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Hatley is survived by her son, Troy James Hatley, Jr and wife Judy of Lenoir; her daughter, Laura McDonald and husband Harvey of Gastonia; sisters, Marie Sturgill, Hazel Hamlet, Winnie Chester and Juanita Goforth; three grandchildren, Kevin Hatley, Sherri Poole and husband Ricky Poole and Terri McDonald and four great grandchildren, Logan Hatley, Grant Hatley, Allison Stutts, and Dylan Gray.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hatley will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at 2:30 pm at Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church with Reverend Jennifer Hiatt and Reverend Paul Brown officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday at the church from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mrs. Hatley’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
