Gwendolyn Martin Hood

Mrs. Hood was the daughter of the late Ralph Martin and Louella Barber Martin and the granddaughter of the late Reverend Richard Willie and Ruby Garfield Barber. In addition to her parents and grandparents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Junior Hood (June), and a brother, Ralph Martin, Jr.

She was a member of Hoods Chapel United Church of God, where she served in the Women on a Mission Prayer Group and served on the Usher Board. Mrs. Hood was employed by Hickory Springs as a foam cutter for over twenty five years.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons, Michael and Geoffrey Hood of Lenoir, and Troy Hood of Petersburg, VA; her daughters, Vanessa Hood Fox (Eddie) of Morganton, and Tonya Hood Morgan (Grady) of Hickory; her brothers, Joseph Martin of Inglewood, CA, Nelson Martin (Cathy) of North Wilkesboro, Douglas Martin (Pamela) of Hickory and Reginald Martin (Jematta) of North Wilkesboro; a sister, Jacqueline Martin of North Wilkesboro; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Pendry’s Chapel with Bishop Philmore Hester, Reverend John Speaks and Reverend Billy Lipford officiating. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home from 12:45 p.m. until 1:45 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Hood, Carlos Hood, Gilford Harper, Michelle Hood, Kimmie Michaux, Herbert Corpening and Tony Hood.
