Hilda married Claude Austin on October 20, 1951. They lived in Lenoir, NC until October, 2006. At that time, they moved to Grace Ridge Retirement Community in Morganton, NC.
Hilda was an avid gardener and took great pride in her beautiful flowers. She was also an excellent seamstress and made many beautiful clothes and quilts during her lifetime.
Her parents, husband, Claude Austin, and granddaughter, Kay Austin May, along with her husband, Homer May, predeceased Hilda. She was also predeceased by her granddaughter, infant, Susan May, and grandson, David May. She is survived by grandson, Micahel May (Tara) of Virginia, grandson, Scott May (Mindilu) of Missouri and grandson, John May, of Waxhaw, NC. There are eight (8) surviving great grandchildren and two (2) great-great grandchildren. She was also predeceased by sisters, Eidth Mahan and Mildred Andrews. Hilda's brothers, Wayne Bryant of Charlotte and Fred Bryant of Davidson, NC, also predeceased her.
A graveside service will bel held on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir at 12:30 pm. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 7, 2022 at Pendry‘s Lenoir Funeral Home from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to United Presbyterian Church PO Box 1495 Lenoir, NC 28645.
