James G. Barker

Mr. Barker was born August 15, 1920 in Ashe County to the late Lloyd Oscar Barker and Phoebe Price Barker. He was a WWII Veteran, having served in the United States Army and worked in the furniture industry in Caldwell County for many years. Mr. Barker enjoyed fishing, camping and being outdoors. He also loved the time he was able to spend with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Shumate Barker, two sisters and four brothers.

Those left to cherish his memory include his children: James Barker Jr. of Hudson, Richard G Barker of Lenoir, Ann Barker Tester of Lenoir, eight grandchildren, twenty four great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, July 13, 2017 in the Chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home at 4:00 pm with Reverend Dr. Alan Carr officiating. Burial will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Carter, Mark Tester, Sonny Rinck, RJ Minton, Jimmy Barker and Tom Davis.
