James "Henry" David Pipes, 73, loving father and grandfather, passed away to his Heavenly Father on Friday, July 28, 2023. Henry was born May 16th, 1950 in Lenoir, North Carolina to Vance Pipes and Mary Lou Dula Pipes. He was the youngest of three children born to Vance and Mary. Henry graduated in 1968 from Hudson High School, then he later joined the Army National Guard where he was in transportation. After the Guard, Henry went on to apply his skills and traits to his occupations. In the 1970s and 1980s, he worked as a carpenter building houses for his good friend Buddy Miller, at Miller Construction. In the 90s he worked as a Die setter at Rockwell International and during the 2000s he worked in maintenance at Broyhill Pacemaker plant. In 1976 Henry married Patricia Jones, and in November 1979 they had a beautiful daughter that they named Heather, and Heather was their only child and Henry’s pride and joy. Henry was a devoted father, and friends would say that when they would see Henry out and about, they would always see Heather with him. Henry called Heather his little sidekick. Henry taught Heather everything from how to ride a bicycle, how to drive, and even how to use a rifle. They had a very close and special relationship. Henry had many hobbies such as his love of riding motorcycles with his son-in-law Scott, driving American muscle cars, watching western movies, and he had a love for fishing. Henry was preceded in death by his father, Vance Pipes of Lenoir, his mother, Mary Lou Dula Pipes of York, South Carolina, uncle Boyd Dula of Lenoir, two sisters, Christie Brim of Marietta, Georgia and Ann Johnson of York, South Carolina. Henry is survived by his daughter, Heather Woods and son-in-law, Scott Woods of Lenoir, two grandsons, Ryan Woods, and Mikeal Woods of Lenoir, uncle Tim Dula of Valdese, North Carolina, and niece and great nephew Anna and Nolan Godshall both of York, South Carolina. Henry was not only a devoted father, but also a great friend and father-in-law as well as a loving grandfather. He will be greatly missed, as now he is in peace, in the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. May he rest in peace.
