

On October 26, 2010 at 6:00 am, Mrs. Jean Marie Phillips Ferguson peacefully departed from Earth to Glory at Select Specialty Hospital in Winston Salem, NC with loved ones by her side.
“Mama Jean”, as she was so lovingly called by those who knew and loved her, was born to the late Harold and Magnolia Phillips Carson in McDowell County.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Ferguson; two sisters, Carolyn Phillips and Elizabeth Simpson; three sons, Nicholas Scott, (“Scottie) Ferguson, Anthony Bruce “Tony” Ferguson and Dennis Keith Ferguson.
Those left to cherish her memory are two sons, Clarence C. Ferguson, Jr. and wife Sherry of Durham, NC, Phillip Ferguson of Lenoir, NC; six daughters, Muriel Patricia “Pat” Beane and husband Michael of Lenoir, NC, Wanda Jean Neal of Knoxville, TN, Sharon Elizabeth Ferguson of Marietta, GA, Constance Carol Hash and husband, Reverend Dwight Hash of Kernersville, NC, Cheryl Elaine Lomax and husband Michael of Atlanta, GA, Ginger Renee Jessup and husband Kevin of Houston, TX; and two loving daughters-in-law, Chandra Ferguson of Lenoir,NC and Josephine Ferguson of Maryland. “Mama Jean” leaves to cherish her memory, thirty-seven grandchildren, thirty-three great grandchildren, and seven great, great grandchildren; one niece, Sojourner “Joy” Rolle of California and one nephew, DeHaven Drummond of Hickory, NC and a host of great nieces and great nephews.
She was the Minister of Music of St. Paul A.M.E. Church for forty-one years. She was also the part-time Minister of Music at Greenhill United Methodist Church and Burgess Chapel United Methodist Church. Mrs. Ferguson was intregal in the formation of the St. Paul A.M.E. Gospel Choir and the Jean P. Ferguson Youth Choir which is named in her honor.
As a pillar at St. Paul A.M.E. Church and her community, her memory will be cherished. She has run her race, she has finished her course, she has kept the faith, she has received her crown.
The family will receive friends, Saturday, October 30, 2010 from 2:00 pm until 2:55 pm prior to the service and at other times at the family home in Lenoir, NC. At 3:00 pm, Saturday, October 30, 2010 a funeral service will be held at St. Paul A.M.E. Church with Reverend Wanda L. Howell officiating and Reverend L. Dwight Hash, eulogist.
Pallbearers will be Mrs. Ferguson’s grandsons and Floral Bearers will be her granddaughters.
