

Mrs. Gryder was born on June 23, 1939 in Watauga County to the late Newton and Flara Main Phillips. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ray “Jack” Gryder, a son, Steven Todd Gryder, two sisters, Anna Lee Smith, Debra Phillips, two brothers, Jordan Phillips and Robert Phillips.
Mrs. Gryder was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted homemaker who took great joy in caring for her family. Joyce was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery and also assisted with the Food Ministry. She cared for many children in her home over the years and loved each and every one.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter, Kristi Gryder Ramsey and husband Neil of Lenoir, her four grandchildren, Dakota and Sierra Ramsey, Noah Roark and Calistia Shea all of Lenoir, A brother, Sonny Phillips of Granite Falls and a sister, Donnie Lackey of Stoney Point.
A Funeral Service to honor Mrs. Gryder will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 11:00 am at Union Grove Baptist Church with Reverend Sam Craven, Reverend Stuart White and Reverend Steve Hedgecock officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitnel First Baptist Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Doug Gryder, Dale Gryder, Terry Church, Mickey Church, Cory Gryder and Harold Gryder.
Honorary pallbearers are all of the children Joyce cared for in her home over the years, they were each one special to her.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 am until 11:00am at Union Grove Baptist Church.
Memorials in honor of Mrs. Gryder may be made to the Whitnel First Baptist Church Food Ministry at 1201 Connelly Springs Road, Lenoir, NC 28645.
