He was born on May 1, 1948 in Watauga County to the late Dallas Winfred and Hazel Mae Hicks Birdsong. Mr. Birdsong was a Marine Corps veteran, having served in the Vietnam War; a member of American Legion #392 and Disabled American Veterans Chapter Six of Hudson. He worked for Kincaid Furniture for nearly 30 years.
Mr. Birdsong is survived by his wife, Salonge Birdsong; son, Sheldon Birdsong; brother, Albert Lee Birdsong; sisters, Wilma Jean Grant and Helen Faye Eller.
A funeral service honoring Mr. Birdsong’s life will take place at 3:00pm on Sunday, January 6 at Lenoir First Wesleyan Church with Rev. James Baker officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm to 3:00pm at the church. Interment with military honors will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The United States Marine Corp and Disabled Veterans Chapter Six will be providing the military honors.
