

Mr. Phillips was born in Caldwell County on November 2, 1931 to the late Jessie B. and Allie Greer Phillips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Jessie Mae Moore, Melon, Burns, and Banks Phillips.
He was a graduate of Happy Valley High School and Clevinger’s Business College in Lenoir, NC. Mr. Phillips was a member of Welcome Home Baptist Church and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War from 1951 until 1955. Mr. Phillips was employed at Kincaid Furniture, Caldwell Furniture, Carolina Table in Hickory, and Bank of Granite.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Campbell Phillips of the home; two daughters, Karen Church and Charie Austin and husband, Ricky; four grandchildren, Crystal Williams, Tamara Dillard, Beverly Rash and Traci Pitts; eight great grandchildren, Tori Rash, Kelsey Pitts, Justin Pitts, Tanner Dillard, Tyler Dillard, Taryn Dillard, Brandon Williams and Brooke Echeverria; and one great-great grandchild, Anthony Echeverria.
Funeral services for Mr. Phillips will be held, Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 10:30 am at Welcome Home Baptist Church with the Reverend Alden Wheeler officiating. Interment will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by Caldwell County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends, Friday evening, May 20, 2011 at Pendry’s Funeral Home from 6:30 pm until 8:30 pm.
Serving as pallbearers will be Richard Andrews, Johnny Turner, Mike Martin, Gene Duncan, Freddie Campbell, and Jeff Rash.
