

Ruth Nelson Haynes, 92, of Whitnel, went home to be with the Lord on March 27, 2010 after a period of declining health.
She was born May 23, 1917 in Caldwell County to the late Ed and Ella Nelson of Whitnel. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grand-daughter, Dana Haynes, a grand-son, Trey Smith, a son-in-law, Billy Parson, three brothers; James Nelson, Ed Nelson and John Nelson and three sisters; Betina Johnson, Pauline Holloway and Nellie Nelson.
Ruth was united in marriage to Willie Jay Haynes of Marion on June 8, 1940. Ruth and Willie would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this coming June.
Ruth was a devoted homemaker, a wise and loving mother and wife, who will best be remembered for her quick witted humor and light hearted laugh.
Left behind to treasure her memory is her beloved husband, Willie, four daughters; Loretta Ollis and husband Larry of Hudson, Margaret Parson of Morganton, Willamena Summerow and husband Larry of Lenoir, Sherry Smith and husband Bill of Lenoir, two sons; Howard Haynes and wife Diane of Lenoir, and Cecil Haynes and wife Olivia of Lenoir; five sisters; Jean Hamby of Lenoir, Maude Holsclaw of Lenoir, Kathleen Sanders of Lenoir, Mary Wheeler of Lenoir, and Helen Melton of Mississippi; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild, and many other dear relatives and friends, as well as church members of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Lenoir, where she was a member.
Ruth’s family will be receiving friends and family at Pendry’s Funeral Home in Lenoir, NC on March 28, 2010 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 29, 2010 at 1:00pm at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with the Reverend Buddy Smith and Pastor Steven Walsh officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be: Greg Bean, Mason Bean, Matthew Gragg, Todd Parson, Justin Keever, and Landon Annas. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Josh Haynes and Jake Smith.
