
Thelma Annie Ferguson at the age of 95 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday July 29, 2015 at Lenoir Healthcare Center. She was born July 25, 1920 in Lenoir to the Late Jessie and Julia Gilreath Patterson. Thelma married her best friend and soul mate Charlie Dewey Ferguson on January 23, 1936. They spent a wonderful 65 years together before Charlie was called to his Heavenly home in 2001. They were blessed with 10 beautiful children.
In addition to her parents she was preceded by her loving husband Charlie Dewey Ferguson, 4 sons Delton, Lonnie, James, Curtis Rodney Ferguson and 1 daughter Earleen Edwards. She was also preceded in death by 1 Brother Earl Patterson and 3 sisters Esther Coles, Elizabeth Baldwin and Lois Williams.
Thelma loved life, family and especially her Lord. Every Sunday was spent at church then home to enjoy those she loved, her family. Thelma, growing up through the depression era, she understood hard times and simple living but grew to understand the important things in life. She and her husband raised 9 children in a loving home that was centered with the love of Christ and strong values. So many wonderful memories centered around their home that Charlie built for his family. She enjoyed cooking, sewing for her family, canning from her garden and she especially loved her beautiful flower garden. Thelma was blessed with a gift of playing the piano and played for many years for her church and family. Her love touched many throughout her life . Thelma was known for her big smile and never met a stranger. She spent last Saturday celebrating her 95th birthday with family and friends and what a great time of love and fellowship they all had. Thelma will be greatly missed not only by her family but the many friends she touched throughout her life.
Left to cherish her memories are 2 son’s, Benny Ferguson (Yvonne) of Lenoir; Randy Ferguson of West Haven, Connecticut. 3 Daughters, Edith Linney (O.J.) of Greensboro, N.C.; Claudia Fuller of Winston Salem, Rita Howard of Hampton Virginia. Daughter in laws, Ann Ferguson of Lenoir and Genia Ferguson of Richmond, Virginia. Surviving also are 2 sisters, Katie Jones and Juliet Battle, both from Raleigh, NC. 21 Grandchildren, 38 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grand Children and number of nieces and nephews.
A going home celebration of will be 2pm Sunday August 2, 2015 at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery , Lenoir, N.C. Officiating Pastor Willie Jackson. The family will celebrate their mothers memory with a gathering of friends and family prior to the service from 12:30 to 1:45 at Pendry’s Funeral Home.
Thelma’s home church was Patterson Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Lenoir Health Care for all the great care and love shown to their Mom during her stay.
