It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Tommy Lemuel Coffey, 86, who left this world on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He was a beacon of kindness, compassion, and generosity - someone whose quiet strength touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
Tommy was born on January 7, 1939, in Lenoir, North Carolina, to the late Willie Calvin and Macy Martin Coffey. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served from 1959-1962 and received a medal of honor for Good Conduct when discharged. He worked as a devoted electrical lineman for Blue Ridge Energy in Lenoir for over 35 years and loved his job and coworkers.
Tommy loved living a simple life. He loved his home, family, friends, and neighbors and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. There was not a time he would not drop anything to help others when they needed, no matter what the circumstance may be. He was good with his hands and built not only his own home but also helped many others with many building and home improvement projects over the years. Tom had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others smile.
Tommy also had a remarkable gift of making people feel special. He believed in doing good simply because it was the right thing to do- and did so without expectation or recognition. Family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers found comfort and support in his presence, and he was loved by many. He will be remembered not only for what he did, but who he was, which was a kind and humble soul with a generous heart, and a calm and quiet force of good in the world.
Tommy loved farming, gardening, and working on anything and everything, especially old cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors. He was a lifetime member of Berea Advent Christian Church in Collettsville, North Carolina.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Barry Weldon Coffey, and
William Harper Coffey.
Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Patsy Beard Coffey; daughter,
Tammy (Jeffery) Todd; two grandchildren, Colby Jeffery Todd, and Emma Grace Todd.
A celebration of life service will be held at Berea Advent Christian Church in Collettsville on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception for family and friends in the church fellowship hall. Reverend Robert Earp will be officiating. Military honors will be provided by the US Army and Caldwell County Veterans' Honor Guard.
Memorial donations in honor of Tommy may be made to Berea Advent Christian Church Men’s Fellowship and mailed to 3001 Summerlin Place, Lenoir, NC 28645.
