Arthur Leo Smith Jr.

Memorial Services are under the direction of George Price Funeral Home in Levelland, Texas and will be held on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm at George Price Funeral Home Chapel in Levelland, Texas with Reverend Sammy Elliott officiating.

Mr. Smith was better known as "Buddy". Arthur Leo Smith, Jr. was born on June 16, 1930 to Arthur L.Sr. and Ida (Jones) Smith. He was raised in Norco, Louisiana. He graduated from Destrehan High and attend LSU. He joined the United States Army in 1951, and was assigned to the Infantry. He was then given the duty of fighting in the Korean War. He received a Battlefield Commission to 1st Lt. Soon after discharge, he worked for a short time with Shell Oil. Then, he and a friend started an insurance company, Louisiana In-surance Services and several other businesses.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lee Shugart. Four children; Arthur Smith III of Portland, Oregon, Jan Montz and husband Randy of Destrehan, Louisiana, Don Smith of Portland Oregon, Parke Smith of San Francisco, California, stepdaughter Sandra Douglass and husband Mike of Chama, New Mexico, stepson Edward Shugart and wife Jackie of Levelland, Texas and stepdaughter- in- law Janet Shugart.

Grandchildren are: Brad Montz and wife Brooke, Drew Duncan all of Destrehan, Louisiana, Carlie and Slade Smith of Portland, Oregon, and a great granddaughter Brylie Montz.

Step Grandchildren: Brant and Tanya Bramblette, Carrie and Sid Grey, Kim and Jason Peterson, Melissa Shugart, Aaron Shugart, Rhonda and Austin Agnew.12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Floyd Smith, and stepson Earl Shugart.
