Darrell Clifford Fred

Graveside services for the beloved father and grandfather, Darrell C. Fred, 93, of Levelland will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, September 30, 2010 in City of Levelland Cemetery, With Rev. Mike Honzell, pastor, College Avenue Baptist Church, Levelland, officiating. Services are under direction of George Price Funeral Home, Levelland He died Tuesday, September 28, 2010 in Levelland.

Born on January 15, 1917 in Winters, Texas to Felix Leonard and Willie Mae Lolar Fred, he was a longtime resident of Hockley County. He married Nola Jean Plumb on February 6, 1946 in Longburg, New Mexico. She died in 1996. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and retired from AMOCO Production Company after 30 years of service. Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Wayland, Narvil and Malcolm, three sisters: Brooksye Chadderdon, Norma Roberts and Donna Sealy. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lois Ann Melton in 1994 and a grandson: Stevie Ray in 1981.

Survivors include: a son: Steven Ray, two daughters Sandy Thoms of Midland, Texas; and Vicki Fred of Dallas, Texas; a brother: Royce Fred of Lubbock and seven grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association.
