Edith Bryant died on Monday, September 23, 2013, in the Levelland Nursing Home, where she had resided for the past twelve years. A service honoring her life as a friend, sister, grandmother and mother will take place at 10 am on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at College Avenue Baptist Church in Levelland, Texas. Burial will be in the Levelland Cemetery with George Price Funeral Home directing.
Edith began her life in Petty, Texas, on May 18, 1913, the daughter of Charles H. Oringderff and Sarah Olive Stroman, she loved her life with her seven brothers and sisters. At a Baptist singing convention, Edith met Buck Bryant, and on October 27, 1935, the two married. Together, Buck and Edith enjoyed fifty-four years of marriage and raising seven children, four of who are currently living: Ralph Bryant (Hortencia) of Laredo, Texas; Ronnie Bryant (Sydna) of Kingsland, Texas; Linda Holt (Eddy) of Midland, Texas; Butch Bryant (Judy) of Levelland, Texas; and also Dan Throckmorton (son-in-law) of Bloomfield, Colorado and Micki Smith (daughter-in-law) of Lubbock, Texas.
Throughout Edith’s life, she remained devoted to her twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-eight great grandchildren, and thirty-nine great-great grandchildren. Her room in the nursing home seemed the most decorated since Edith proudly displayed photographs of all of these children, their spouses, and even the pets. Of all Ediths hobbies, she loved to read and kept the church library filled with the recent bestselling Christian books. In the nursing home, she led a Bible study for the residents. In Whitharral, where she lived for many years, the locals flocked to her café and though in time Edith closed the business, she continued to bake pies and appease former cus-tomers and her family. Her active life, her legacy, will instill the importance of living in the moment and making God a part of one’s life.
Edith is preceded in death by her husband Buck; two sons, Gilbert and Calvin (Stump) Bryant; a daughter, Mildred Throckmorton ; two grandsons, Parrish Bryant and Dale Davis; and four brothers (Verle, Dood, Dee, and Leo Oringderff) and one sister Jewel Kyle .
Visitation with family will take place at the George Price Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 25 , 2013 between 7 to 9 pm.
The family would appreciate any memorial donation in Edith’s name. Most special to her would be the College Avenue Baptist Library Fund, Levelland, Texas.
