Mary Lee Shugart

Mary Lee (Sal) Shugart went home to be with the Lord July 26, 2015 in Levelland, Texas. She is preceded in death by her husband, L.A. (Son) Shugart in 1983, by her second husband, Arthur (Buddy) Smith in 2012, and by her youngest son, Woodward Earl Shugart in 2009. She was born in Victoria, Texas on June 19, 1924. She married L.A. Shugart in 1942. In 1943 she went to work in the Pentagon, writing letters to the families of the fallen soldiers of WWII. After the war, Sal and Son opened Shugart Studios, Inc., putting down roots in Levelland in 1960. Sal was well known for decades as a photographer and successful business partner of Shugart Studios, Inc. Sal married Buddy Smith in 1999. She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Mike Douglass of Chama, NM; son and daughter-in-law, Edward and Jackie Shugart; daughter-in-law, Janet Shugart all of Levelland; six grandchildren, Brant Bramblette, Carrie Gray, Kim Peterson, Melissa Shugart, Aaron Shugart, and Rhonda Agnew; eleven great-grandchildren, Dakota and Daniella Bramblette, Skylar and Laila Peterson, Alexander, Jonathan and Caroline Agnew, Matthew and Caitlin Licano, Hanna and Haven Godwin; and two great great-grandchildren, Trystyn Boykin and Luna Bramblette. Funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church in Levelland Thursday, July 30, 2015, at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 29, 2015, from 6:00-8:00 PM at George Price Funeral Home.
