Born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Levittown by his mother, Alberta Petrunyak, Jim spent much of his working life as a crane operator at the Fairless Hills Steel Mill. Even after retirement, he continued working at Gamesa, where he helped manufacture wind turbine hubs. During that time, he also proudly served as president of the USW Local 4889 Union.
Known for his sarcastic wit and dry sense of humor, Jim had a knack for making people laugh, even in the most unexpected moments. Always ready to lend a hand, he was the one people called when something needed fixing, whether it was a computer, a small engine, or a problem you couldn’t quite figure out on your own.
A dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, Phillies, and Eagles, Jim followed his teams with unwavering loyalty. He loved animals and the outdoors, often feeding the neighborhood wildlife, and took pride in his vegetable garden. Music of all kinds was a constant in his life.
Jim was someone you could count on. He was reliable, capable, and generous with his time. His absence will be deeply felt by those who turned to him often and knew they could.
Predeceased in death by his parents and his stepson, Andrew Birbeck, Jim is survived by his wife of 19 years, Cheryl Bauer; daughters, Christine Perkins and Jaime Bauer; grandchildren, William Brennan (Erika), Kyle, Katelyn, Abby, Emily Perkins, Zion and Priya Birbeck; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Myles Brennan; stepsons, Michael Birbeck (Jessica) and Timothy Birbeck (Patricia); stepdaughter, Olivia Czarnecki (Robert).
All services for Jim will be private.
