

Bernard J. "Sparky" Maziarz passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, August 6, 2014. He was 87. Sparky was born and raised in Trenton, NJ. He enlisted in the Merchant Marines at the age of 17, and then in the US Army at 18. While serving in the US Army, he was stationed in Trieste, Italy where he met and married the love of his life, the late Darma "Memi" Maziarz. In 1952 Sparky along with Memi and their 2 yr. old son Robert, moved back to the US to finish his military service. The growing family became original Levittown homeowners residing in the Oaktree section. He resided in Levittown until 4 years ago, when he moved in with his son David. Sparky worked as a Millwright and oiler with US Steel Fairless Works, National Tube Division until his retirement in 1987. Until recently, he gathered regulary with his retiree friends for meetings and playing poker. Sparky enjoyed gardening, especially in his younger years, and loved taking bus trips to Atlantic City with his friends. He was a loyal Philadelphia Philles fan. Beloved husband of 58 years of the late Memi, Sparky was the devoted father of Robert (Ann) of Levittown, David (the late Eileen), Cindy Maziarz, Debbie Costello (Jack), Erica Guthrie, all of Fairless Hills, and Daniel of Levittown. He will be sorely missed by his grandchildren, Crystal, Rebecca, David, Cody, Tucker, Jaclyn, Nick, Jenna, Tania and Keith. He was affectionately known as "Pop Pop Sparkle" to his great grandchildren, Ella, Gavin, Luke and Owen. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 6-8 pm and on Tuesday from 10-11 am, with the service beginning at 11 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Rite of Committal to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
