Charlotte Frances Schadler of Fairless Hills passed away on December 24, 2020, at the age of 90. She was preceeded in death by her husband Roy Alan Schadler and her eldest daughter Marilyn Schadler Sallustio, as well as her sisters Marjorie Brennan and Jeane Basciano.
She was born Charlotte Frances Herbolzheimer on June 24, 1930, at Bellvue Hospital in Manhattan, NY, to her parents Harry H. Herbolzheimer and Doris (Bangs) Herbolzheimer. Her family legally changed their name to Hart during World War II because of discrimination against Germans in the United States.
Charlotte ran track for the Police Athletic League in New York as a teenager and spent a lot of time with her husband of fifty years roller dancing, particularly at the Empire Rollerdrome in Brooklyn, NY, the Carman Roller Rink in Philadelphia, and Queens Roller Rink in Elmhurst,Long Island, to name a few.
After graduating from Prospect Heights High School, Charlotte worked at the Prudential Life Insurance Company in New York City until she became a full time stay at home mom in 1952.
Charlotte just loved babies and children and her concern for them prompted her to become a foster parent to some 33 children over a number of years. Each child left the Schadler home with a photo album to document their early lives as well as a feeling of love.
Charlotte is a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star. Charlotte enjoyed bowling, joining a league wherever she lived. She was a Red Hat Lady, too. She enjoyed doing volunteer work in her community in Ohio with the Yellow Ribbon Support Center which sent donated goodies to our troops overseas and 4 The Babies for which she knitted hats for infants which were donated to hospitals.
Charlotte loved to travel. She and Roy had a camper van and logged many miles in it. They also traveled overseas. Charlotte was thrilled to see the terra cotta warriors in Xian, China. She had saved a National Geographic magazine, which had the warriors as its cover photo and story but never dreamed she would actually see them in person. After Roy passed away she continued traveling, enjoying cruises and charter bus trips around the US and the Caribbean, making friends wherever she went. She was also a long time Phillies fan.
Charlotte is survived by her daughter Nancy Schadler Chang (Douglas), son Wayne Schadler (Cathy), and seven grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are pending due to the Covid pandemic.
In lieu of flowers the family asks you to make a memorial contribution to an organization that provides support for foster children or people who suffer from dementia.
