

Elizabeth "Betty" McDevitt Jonasdied peacefully Sunday, July 11, at her home in Levittown, sur-rounded by her family. She was 85.Betty was the beloved wife of Gerard"Jerry" Jonas for 61 years, and the devoted mother of six children and five grandchildren.Born in Philadelphia to William and Margaret McDevitt, she had lived in Levittown since 1956, and was a Founding member of the Queen of the Universe Catholic Church.Betty was a graduate of LittleFlower High School, class of 1949.She worked as a bookkeeper forKitchen Kraft from 1949 to 1951, and as a claims department clerkfor Century Indemnity Co. from 1951 until 1956 when she left to raise her children.Over the next 30 years, Bettyassisted her husband on numeroussports promotions with the Phillies,Eagles, Yankees, and Astros, and on a TV show with cowboy movie actor, Roy Rogers.From 1982 until 1997, Betty was the office manager for Sports MediaPresentations, again assisting herhusband on TV, radio, and in-stadiumpromotions for major sports teams. A lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, Betty was activein projects for homeless and needy military veterans.Betty enjoyed movies, 1940s music, Broadway musicals, classic operettas, bowling, raising small plants and flowers, Phillies baseball and Notre Dame football,and most of all, her children's andgrandchildren's sporting events andsocial activities.She loved animals and had a specialfondness for elephants.Betty is survived by her husband, Gerard, and their six children, Gerard III, Kathleen Bukowski and her husbandStefan, Sarah, Daniel, Kevin, and CharlesJonas, and her five grandchildren, Aileen, Kaitlin and Gregory Bukowski, and Rachel and Chloe Jonas.Betty was pre-deceased by her parents,her sister Eileen Harris, and two siblings, William and Dolores, who died in infancy.Relatives and friends will be received by the family Tuesday, July19, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the James J. DoughertyFuneral Home, 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown.A funeral Mass will be celebratedWednesday at 10 a.m. at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Rd.Levittown.Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. at the Washington Crossing National Cemetery,Newtown.Memorial contributions in her name may be made to any elephant or other animal rescue mission of your choice.
