

Ervin C. Deck, Jr. Ervin C. Deck, Jr. died on Friday, April 24, 2015 at his home in Newtown. He was 88. Born in the Rhawnhurst neighborhood of Philadelphia on December 20, 1926 to the late Ervin and Elizabeth Deck, Mr. Deck moved to Levittown in 1952 as an original homeowner. He graduated from Germantown High School in 1943. Following gradution, he entered into a carpenter apprenticeship school and worked as a carpenter for nearly 35 years until going to work at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in the mid 1980's until his retirement in 1991. He served twice in the United States Navy, first as a young seaman during World War II where he served on the USS Ashladn (LSD-1). His primary duty was as a coxswain driving landing craft. He was one of the early group of US military personnel to go ashore in Japan following their surrender. Later he reenlisted in the US Navy Reserves and served in the Seabees and a Builder (BU) for eight years. Mr. Deck also enjoyed hunting. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Eva P., his parents, sister Jeanette, his son George. Mr. Deck is survived by sons Ervin C. III (Ellen), William H., Edward J. (Elba) and James J. (Colleen); 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, from 7:00 until 9:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. Interment will be held privately in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation - Delaware Valley Chapter, 2004 Sproul Road, Suite 208, Broomall, PA 19008.
