

Harry Packer of Fairless Hills died on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at Attleboro Nursing Home at the age of 87. Born in Hamilton, PA, he was one of six children born to the late Alton and Freda (Grove) Packer. He was married to the love of his life, Alma Ruth (Elbell) Packer for 66 years. After graduating from Punxsutawney High School in 1944, he joined the U.S. Navy and served during World War II where he received a commendation for his service on the ship Escape. It was on that ship that he acquired the nickname P-Pipe. He moved to Fairless Hills in 1952 and worked as a machinist and foreman at U.S. Steel for 39 years before retiring. Harry belonged to the Fairless Hills Masonic Lodge 776 for over 50 years and had served as their Chaplain for many years. He was also a member of the Central NJ Consistory 32nd Degree and belonged to the Crescent Temple Shrine. He was a charter member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairless Hills where he taught Sunday School for 30 years. He was a man of deep faith who loved God and his Country. Harry loved golfing and bowling in his earlier years and enjoyed working on jigsaw and crossword puzzles. He was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan. He will be remembered for his devotion and dedication to his wife and family. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Barbara Krushnowski (Joseph) and Judy Blackmon (Harry), one son Jeffrey Packer, all of Fairless Hills; two grandsons, Jonathan Blackmon (Jenna) of Garnet Valley and David Packer of Fairless Hills and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call from 6 until 8 p.m. on Monday at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church of Fairless Hills, 840 Trenton Rd., Fairless Hills followed by interment at Rosedale Memorial Park. There are no calling hours on Tuesday prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 1617 JFK Blvd., Suite 700, Philadelphia, PA 19103.
