

He was an active dad, grandfather, brother, uncle, close friend and good neighbor to many.
Harry was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania on April 3, 1940, the last child to Elmer and Marie Slezak (Kovar). With three older brothers, Elmer, Dan and George Slezak (all predeceased) and two older sisters, Margaret Clair and Rose DiMinno (both predeceased), Harry spoke of many fond memories growing up in Latrobe.
Harry was a member of the Army National Guard of Pennsylvania 110th Infantry, 1954-1957.
Harry was also a Veteran of the United States Air Force Police and was stationed in Oregon, California and Texas. While in the Air Force, Harry was accidentally shot and unexpectedly survived after being read his Last Rites. Harry liked to share this story with his family and remind them they might not have been.
After the Air Force, Harry lived in Levittown, PA with his brother Dan and family where he met his neighbor, Mildred K. Gerlacher who became the love of his life. As told by Mildred, Harry always “happened to be working on his car” when she walked home from high school, and his football always “happened to land” in their front yard. Their first date was a Bristol H.S. vs. Neshaminy H.S. football game. Harry and Mildred married and lived in Bristol, PA then later settled in Levittown where they raised four children.
Harry worked in the Mobil Shop at U.S. Steel Fairless Works for 30+ years. After retiring, he worked for a number of years in maintenance at the Pennsbury School District.
Harry is survived by his wife of 62+ years Mildred K. Slezak and their children, Christine Donahue (Rob), Carl Slezak (Renee) and Allan Slezak (Eileen). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lindsey Donahue Turkewitz (Noah), Katelyn Donahue, Allan Jr., Adam and Alysha Slezak, Scott Appleyard, Emily and Karly Farrell and many nieces and nephews.
Harry is predeceased by his beloved dog, Winston, with whom he enjoyed taking long walks and chatting with neighbors.
Harry greatly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, especially at the holidays. On Sunday mornings, he could be found drinking coffee and hanging out with his buddies outside of the local Wawa.
Harry is a member of the Falls Township Senior Center, where he previously served on the Board, and a former member of the Fairless Hills YMCA. Harry also loved gardening and especially enjoyed sharing his vegetables with family, friends and neighbors. Harry loved listening to country music, rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers, feeding the birds, fishing, and hunting. He was also well known for his sense of humor.
Harry and Mildred enjoyed many years travelling to the mountains, Cape May, on cruises and other memorable trips.
A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 11:00 am until 1:00 PM, followed by a funeral service, at the James J Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown.
Burial with full military honors will take place on Monday, March 10, 2025 at 11:00 AM, at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown, PA. Please be in line at the main office no later than 10:45 AM.
