James Ireland, 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 24, 2023 and left behind his loving wife Claire and his devoted daughter Maureen. His living survivors are his daughter Donna, granddaughter Donna Marie and great grandson Zachary in which he had great love, shared many special times and dearly missed.
Jim's love for boating and fishing started when born in Atlantic City. His parents, Margaret Scanlon and James Ireland moved him and his brother Tommy to Olney where they had his sister Peggy and younger brother Patrick.
Jim helped his parents by delivering groceries on his bicycle as a young boy and working at his father's gas station and auto shop, providing road side assistance on the boulevard at night and being up and ready for classes in the morning at North Catholic.
It was love at first sight when he met his wife Claire (of 72 year) at a dance and said to her “There you are!” which became their motto and the source of many laughs. He was drafted into the Army and served as a Corporal in the 101st Airborne Division.
Jim worked at White Motor Trucks (40+ years) as Service Manager and retired from Jersey Bus as a General Manager admired and respected by fellow employees and customers. A quiet man with a witty sense of humor, an easy-going demeanor, and an innate power for helping others – always working with his hands, fixing everyones cars and anything mechanical – and built additions and enhancements to his home over the course of 70 years for pride of his home and the love of his wife.
He belonged to the AOH in Bristol, the Bucks County Irish Society, the Knights of Columbus and the Rosary group of Immaculate Conception, drove and aided the elderly to their doctor's appointments and supported many charities.
Jim and Claire loved to travel, entertain family and friends in their pool and at Sunday dinners, and on his boat “The Good Timing”. Annual family vacations to Wildwood and Summers Point were where he taught family and friend's children waterskiing, tubing and crabbing. He was like a grandfather to his grandnieces Christine and Heather and grandnephew Eric who share in these memories. Being born on the 4th of July there was always a celebration with Jim.
His final years were a battle after a fall but he still got up to walk with a walker with all odds against him. He never gave up! Caregivers became family friends and he greatly appreciated their help. He enjoyed siting on his porch bird watching and having picnic lunches. Taking rides to the river to watch the boats, eating at Curtains and the King George, sleepovers at Maureen's with Dave and having BBQs and bonfires, listening to country music and reminiscing with Claire all of the good times they had. He was a loving husband and the best father. He will be heartbrokenly missed.
A visitation for James will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Queen of the Universe, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056, followed by a Catholic Mass at 10:30 AM, Burial will be Our Lady of Grace Cemetery, 1215 Super Highway, Langhorne, Pennsylvania 19047.
