

James J. Murtha James J. Murtha passed away peacefully on October 15, 2011 at Twining Village Health Care, Holland. He had been a resident of Twining Village the last 6 years. He was 89. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Murtha had resided in Bristol and Bensalem before moving to Twining Village. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran, having served as an electrical mate with the 102nd Construction Battalion with the Navy Seabee's in the Philippines. Mr. Murtha was a retiree of IBEW Local Union No. 98 and an electrician by trade, having started his own business, J.J. Murtha Electric, Inc., and then went to work as a Project Manager for McCarthy Electric and then Forest Electric. He was a pass member of Torresdale Frankford Golf and Country Club. Mr. Murtha was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Emma and his sister, Anna Hopkins (Charles). He is survived by his son, James J. Murtha (Rita) and grandson Jeffrey of Langhorne, his loving daughter, Patricia Pollace (Dominic) of Levittown and brother-in-law, Elmer Taylor (Shirley) of Matawan, NJ. He will also be sadly missed by several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, from 7:00 until 9:00 pm and on Wednesday, from 8:30 until 9:30 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10:00 am at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown. Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in his name be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 12265 Townsend Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154 or the charity of donor's choice.
