Joanne M. Smith passed away in St. Mary's Hospital and is in Gods loving hands. Her suffering and pain have ceased, and peace is her forever journey ahead.
Joanne M. Smith was born November 11, 1952 and raised in Philadelphia, attended St.
Helena Church and elementary school, graduated from Olney High School 1971. She furthered her education by attending and graduating from Bucks County Technical School with her LP nursing degree and became registered in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
Joanne met and married her first true love, George Schieder of Bucks County and together they had and raised their daughter Michelle Schieder. Unfortunately, after 24 years of marriage, her husband passed away after a life of suffering through diabetes. Together Joanne and Michelle continued until Joanne met Gary Smith on February 14, 1997. They married March 20,1998. They spent the next 26+ years together loving, supporting and caring for each other through good times and bad.
Joanne was preceded in death by her grandparents Frank and Eva Miley, her mother Marie Phillips, her father Tom Sweenie, stepfather Basil Phillips, and her husband George Schieder.
Joanne left behind her husband of 26 years, Gary A. Smith, Her daughter Michelle Schieder, sons Jason G. DeVinney (Jenny), Todd E. Smith (Kimberly) her brothers and sisters, Eva Kennedy, Joseph Phillips (Teresa), Christine Little (Dan), Teresa Scargill (Richard), Frank Phillips, and four loving grandchildren that knew her as Grandma Jo.
Joanne was a devoted passionate Eagles, Phillies, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Pittsburgh Panthers fan. A sports fanatic and devoted to watching and cheering on her teams. The Jersey Shore was her true passion, if she had the ability to live there forever, she would have. Country line dancing was one of her true enjoyments besides watching sports.
After her Stroke in 2010, country line dance people, friends and family, surrounded her with love and support that gave her strength to recover.
A memorial gathering for Joanne is scheduled for Saturday, November 9, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 pm at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056.
