

John J. Brett Jr., of Levittown, died on Thursday, January 5, 2012 at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital. He was 62. Born and raised in the Tacony section of Philadelphia (then known as "Peels"), he was a 1967 graduate of Lincoln High School and resided in Levittown for the past 32 years. John was raised in Our Lady of Consolation parish in Philadelphia and was currently a member of Queen of the Universe parish. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving as a signalman on the U.S.S. Constitution during the Vietnam War; it was there he met his lifetime dear friend, the late Jim Baker. John began his career as a loan officer for various financial institutions and eventually moved into the automobile industry as a finance manager. Starting at Peruzzi Pontiac, where his nickname "Doc" was coined by longtime friend and colleague Rick Addeo, he spent the majority of his successful managerial career with the Chapman Auto Group and most recently at B&B Automotive. Son of the late John J. Sr. and Lena Brett, John was the beloved husband of Linda M. (Becker) Brett for 28 years. He was also the loving father of Dawn Brett of Levittown, J.D. Merrell and his wife Tori of East Greenville, Pa, Nicholas and Stephen Brett both of Levittown, as well as Angilena Brett and her fianc Jason Kerper of Langhorne. He was the proud grandfather of Johnny (Pop Pop's Man), Caitlyn (Lil' Dawny), Tommy (Best Friend/Enemy), Brianna (Baby) and Liam (Lil' Buddy). A huge Eagles fan, John enjoyed golfing, card games, trips to the beach, dancing and the occasional cigar. Also, he looked forward to orchestrating the annual family trip to the Thanksgiving Day Parade. Mostly, he loved to spend time with his family and truly treasured being a Pop Pop. He will be sadly missed by his entire extended family especially by his poker playing in-laws. Family and friends may call on Tuesday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednsday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc. 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10:00 a.m. at Queen of the Universe Church followed by Rite of Committal in Resurrection Cemetery.
