

John was born in San Leandro, California, to parents, John Soares and Josephine Soares (nee Calise). John was married to his high school sweetheart, Joanne (nee McDermott) for 56 years. He was a devoted Father, soccer and softball coach and dance Dad to his three daughters. He was also a loving protector of his many dogs, especially his labs Deuce and Buddy. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, nieces and nephews and was a master of the art of debate at countless holidays and family gatherings.
He graduated from Bishop Egan High School in 1965. After high school, John proudly served in the United States Army for 4 years, including a tour in Korea. He continued his education at Villanova University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. John went on to establish a long, accomplished career in manufacturing production spanning over 40 years. After he retired, he obtained his real estate license to keep himself busy.
Throughout his life, John pursued many hobbies and interests. He loved playing golf, bowling, woodworking, photography and cooking (and making a mess in Joanne’s kitchen). He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan, especially of the Philadelphia Eagles. John was a former member of the American Legion and the Bucks County Chamber of Commerce.
John was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Linda McKenna.
John is survived by his wife Joanne; his daughters Jennifer Troia (Stefanio), Christine Soares (Amit Shah), and Michele Gregory (Jim); his grandchildren Natalie and Olivia Troia, Ellie and Prem Shah; and many nieces and nephews.
A viewing for John will be held Thursday, July 11, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 PM, 2200 Trenton Rd, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056. His committal service will occur Tuesday, July 16, 2024 at 9:30 AM at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd, Newtown, Pennsylvania 18940.
