Born in Philadelphia, Joseph worked as a Train Master for Penn Central and Conrail before his retirement. Joseph was a sports fan, particularly of football (the Eagles) and hockey (the Flyers), and golf. He also enjoyed science fiction, where he expressed a great interest for aliens and UFOs. His favorite pastime was spending weekends with his wife and family at their beach house in Ocean City, NJ.
Predeceased by his parents, Mary and William Smith; and his brother Robert Smith; Joseph is survived by his loving wife of over 60 years, Jane Carr; his son Michael Carr (Doug); his daughter Debbie Laborde (Mike); and his daughter Patty Lieb (Scott); his granddaughters Danielle Laborde, and Stephanie Laborde; his grandsons Christopher Laborde, Jeffrey Lieb, and Ryan Lieb (Rebecca); his three great-grandchildren; his sister, Nancy Keys; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Joseph will be held Friday, April 5, 2024 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
