

Joseph H. Dougherty of Wood River Village, Bensalem PA formerly of the Highland Park section of Levittown, passed away quietly in his sleep on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. He was born in Philadelphia, on October 17, 1924, son of the late Helen (Porter) and Harry Dougherty. He graduated from Our Lady of Mercy School and was in the first graduating class of Dobbin's Technical School in 1942. Mr. Dougherty served proudly in the US Army Air Corp during World War II, enlisting at the age of 17. Upon returning from the service he attended Temple University. He retired from IBM as a Custom Senior Field Engineer of 36 years. He was a Webelo leader for the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 124, and a former member of the Moose, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. A man of Irish humor and laughter, Mr. Dougherty was also supreme story teller, who enjoyed talking and listening to everyone. He loved traveling with his beloved wife of 60 years, Gladys, and camping and sailing with his five children. Known as a loving husband and father he is survived by his wife, Gladys C. (Hall) and his children, son, Joseph and daughter-in-law, Holly of Pennington, NJ and their children, Jesse, Blair and Devin Dougherty; son, Michael and daughter-in-law, Valentina of Langhorne, and their children, Michael, Lauren and Lindsay Dougherty; daughter, Kathleen Ethel and son-in-law, Daniel Carroll of Langhorne and their children, Sarah and her family, husband, Yasha Conen and son Liam; Colleen Carroll, Patrick Carroll and his fianc, Clare O'Reilly; daughter, Marianne and son-in-law, Fred Dalton of Langhorne and their children, Julianne, Kellianne and Leeanne Dalton; daughter, Patricia Mae and son-in-law, Mark Thomas and their children, Megan, Kevin and Paige Thomas. Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, from 9:15 until 10:00 am at Saint Ephrem Church, 5400 Hulmeville Road, Bensalem, where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Rite of Committal will follow in Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Newtown.
