Born in Aghagallon, North Ireland, she moved to the United States with her husband and then four children in the 1960's. A former longtime resident of Levittown, Mrs. O'Rourke has resided in Delaware County for the past 15 years. She was a devout Catholic and longtime member of the former St. Joseph the Worker Church, Fallsington, where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. At the time of her passing, she was a parishioner at Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Media, PA.
Mrs. O'Rourke loved spending time with her grandchildren and enjoyed knitting for them. She was especially proud of all of her children and her Irish heritage - returning to Ireland as often as possible.
Beloved wife of 61 years to the late Norman O'Rourke, she is the loving mother of Lt. Col. John Gerard O'Rourke (Denise) of Quincy, FL; Gwendoline O'Rourke of Levittown, PA; Norman Patrick O'Rourke (Patricia) of Newtown, PA; Martin O'Rourke and Harvey Rice, Esq. of Rose Valley, PA and Mark James O'Rourke Sr. (Lisa) of Dallastown, PA; and the devoted grandmother of thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Alice O'Rourke and Cecelia McKavanagh; brother-in-law, William Russell; and over seventy nieces and nephews in Ireland, Canada and America.
She will be sadly missed by her BFF, Sandra Kpolle, a strong and vibrant refugee from war-torn Liberia who helped the family nurse and care for Josephine during the final stages of her battle with Alzheimers. Josephine and Sandra enjoyed a deep friendship based on their shared immigrant journeys to America.
Josephine was predeceased by her parents; husband Norman; her 11 siblings; her nephew Michael Edward McKavanagh; and nieces Sheena McKavanagh and Veronica McKavanagh.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 from 9:30 until 10:30 am at Nativity B.V.M. Church, 30 East Franklin Street, Media, PA, where her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. The Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, PA.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimers Association, Inc. - Delaware Valley Chapter, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
