

Lester M. Bahrt of Fairless Hills died on Friday, April 18, 2014 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 87. Born and raised in Hazleton, Mr. Bahrt lived briefly in the Mayfair section of Philadelphia before moving to Fairless Hills in 1952. He was employed as a Mill Inspector at the Fairless Works plant of U.S. Steel, retiring after 30 years. He then worked in the landscaping business before retiring for good in the mid 1990's Mr. Bahrt was active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years, serving as a District Commissioner in the Bucks County Council for several of those years. He was also a firefighter with the Fairless Hills Volunteer Fire Department. He was a charter member of the Fairless Hills United Methodist Church and was active in affairs of the church. For the past 10 years he volunteered at their food pantry and derived great pleasure from that work. He enjoyed stamp collecting, woodworking and rooting for the Philadelphia sports teams. Mr. Bahrt was preceded in death by his wife, Tegwedd Steventon Bahrt in 2006. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth M. Bahrt and his wife Margaret of Point Pleasant Beach, NJ, David W. Bahrt and his wife Diane of Newville, PA and Robert A. Bahrt and his wife Kathy of Star Tannery, VA; his daughter Cheryl Gill and her husband James of Ausable Forks, NY; 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 9:30 a.m. at Fairless Hills United Methodist Church, 840 Trenton Rd., Fairless Hills, PA 19030. A graveside service will follow at 1 p.m. at Skyview Memorial Park in Tamaqua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the food pantry at Fairless Hills United Methodist Church.
