Marion Rebecca Williams aka Gloria was born August 3, 1941, Baltimore, Maryland, to Marion Bernice Clark and James Johnson. Gloria was married to Bennie Richard Williams, who preceded her in death. Gloria was the eldest of three siblings, Diane Lucretia Moore, Rebecca Lucretia Gwynn; affectionately known as Pat or Patricia, who preceded her in death.
She grew up in Newark, New Jersey where she attended Morton Street School and South Side High School. She received a degree from Natural Motion Cosmetology School and was a Licensed Cosmetologist in New Jersey. Gloria worked as a cosmetologist at Soul Scissors and worked for various local salons in Newark, as well as her own home salon. She furthered her education attending Berkeley College in East Orange, New Jersey where she received her Associate's Degree in Fashion Merchandising. After graduating she was a buyer for Bamberger's department store.
Gloria loved all types of music including bluesy jazz, R & B, funk, gospel and hip hop. She could often be found chilling with a cigarette and a brandy snifter listening to her tunes. She especially loved percussion instruments and horns. She enjoyed live talent whether it was local bands, concerts or her personal favorite; her children, grandkids, other family members and friends, who would entertain her and one another. She even adopted her own birthday song which rings out on every family birthday celebration.
Gloria loved to travel and visited many places around the world including Jamaica, Bahamas, Italy, Ireland, London, the place she was most fond of was Greece; a place where she spent many winters. She lived in Cape Cod for and spent a few years in Hudson, Ohio. She really loved life and she loved her family.
Gloria had seven children, two that preceded her in death, Lorraine Williams and Belinda Mateo. Five surviving children: Jerome Williams, Rene' Gertrude Turay, Teresa Williams Greene, Waleed Richard Williams and Janine Denise Williams. Her "favorite" Son-in-law, Joseph Gordon Greene, III and two daughters-in-law, Regnah David-Williams and Leslie Katherine Williams. She also leaves to celebrate her life, her grandchildren, Tova Nicole Williams-Randolph, Jacqueline Lorraine Summer Williams, Fanta Mia Turay, Sasha Antoinette Williams-Jones, Monyce Lemon, Brittany Janai Williams, Deshay Monique Williams, Gloria Carolyn Greene, and Rome Jamil Williams.
