

Mary Jo Cowan Mary Jo Cowan passed away Friday, December 13, 2013. She was 80. Born in Fairmont, W. Va., Mary Jo was the daughter of the Late Estelle Crum and Wilmer F. Sebold. She was raised by her father and stepmother, the late Mary Fay Sebold. Shortly after Mary Jo graduated from high school, her family moved to Connellsville, Pa., where she met and married her loving husband of 60 years, William M. Cowan, on September 12, 1953. They moved to Levittown, where they resided for 56 years. Mary Jo was a very active parishioner at Queen of the Universe Church, where she was a member of the Regina Guild. For more than a decade, she volunteered to pray the Rosary at Statesman Nursing Home and also served as a Eucharistic Minister at Saint Mary Medical Center. She loved to garden and was a member of the Four Lanes End Garden Club for 15 years. She especially enjoyed working on the annual holiday house tour. Mary Jo's greatest joy was her family. She was the devoted mother of William M. Cowan, Jr. (Barbara), Linda Cowan Triplett (Gary), Maureen Cowan Orth (Matthew), and Timothy P. Cowan (Anne-Marie); beloved grandmother of Tiana, Michael, Lauren, Blake, Will, Nicole, Luke, Caitrin (Eric), Nathaniel and Collin; great grandmother of Evan. She is also survived by her sister, Margie Terneus (Ed). Relatives and friends will be received from 6 until 9 pm on Thursday, December 19 at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 am on Friday, December 20 at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Road, Levittown, followed by the Rite of Committal in Resurrection Cemetery. There will be no calling hours on Friday morning. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mary Jo's name to Queen of the Universe Church or Rotaplast International, 3317 26th Street, San Francisco, CA 94110.
