Michael Edward McGovern, age 71, passed away on May 20, 2025 at Temple Hospital in Philadelphia. He was a longtime resident of Croydon, Pennsylvania.
Mike was born in Philadelphia, to parents, Edward and Dorothy (Shorter). He graduated from George Washington High School in 1971. Mike continued his education at Philadelphia Community College studying photography. After years working in the presentation graphics industry, Mike went on to establish a career as a marine mechanic, working at McGovern’s Marine Service with his brother, John, for over 27 years.
Mike was a lifetime member of the Wissinoming Yacht Club where he made countless friends over the years. He loved being out on the water on his boat and fishing with his close friends and sons. He had planned to retire and spend time working on his antique MG sports car and motorcycle. He was happiest simply visiting with his grandchildren and watching them grow up.
He was always there to help a friend or loved one in need and will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Dorothy, as well as his siblings, Kathy, Tommy, and Coleen.
Mike is survived by his children, Brian (Rebekah), Stephen (Chelsea), and Daniel (Emma), his grandchildren, Charlotte, Lila, and Allison, his siblings, Patty (Rich), John (Tara), and Donna (Jeff), his former spouse, Cynthia, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A celebration of Michael’s life will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, Pennsylvania 19056. Visitation will be from 9:30AM to 11:30AM, with a memorial service beginning at 11:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael’s name may be made to Temple Health’s Cora & Emile Criner Lung Disease Research Fund.
