

Richard T. Shaffer, at the age of 92, passed away peacefully at home on August 8, 2018 with his wife of seventy-two years by his side. Rick, or Dad or Pap as he was known to his friends, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, was born in Brownsville, Pennsylvania. After graduating from Brownsville High School, World War II called him to enlist in the Navy. When he returned from his tour of duty, he attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology under the GI Bill. Back home in Brownsville, he married Dawn Haney. They raised their family in Fairless Hills and he worked thirty plus years for U.S. Steel until his retirement.An artist at heart, Rick dabbled in photography and left a legacy of creative home movies of the family. He was often called upon to create posters for community events. Rick spent years in local politics and decades striving for the perfect bowling score. He enjoyed watching baseball and coaching Little League. But his greatest joy came from his family, whether a visit with one child or a boisterous gathering of generations. Richard is survived by his wife Dawn (Haney) Shaffer, son Richard and wife Robin, daughter Scotty Friar and husband Larry Hager, daughter Dana Ranta and husband David, daughter Laurie, son-in-law Kevin Buck, son Mark and wife Amy, thirteen grandchildren, and ten great grandchildren. He was predeceased by son Lance, and daughter Dawn Buck.He will receive military funeral honors at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA 18940, on August 21 at 2:00 pm.
