Rita F. Schwab, 83, passed away on September 4, 2024, in Langhorne, PA. Born to the late Francis "Brownie" and Rita Brown, Rita lived a life marked by devotion to her faith, her family, and commitment to education.
A graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Rita was blessed with a sharp intellect that earned her an academic scholarship to College Misericordia, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology and enjoyed a collegiate field hockey career. Rita dedicated four decades of her life to educating young minds as a Biology teacher at Delhaas High School; she retired from her educational duties at St. Mark's School.
Rita’s life was enriched by her deep involvement in various community and personal interests. She was heavily involved in the Girl Scouts and found immense joy as she served as a devoted host for the Queen of the Universe Regina Guild. You could find Rita relaxed as she read her mystery novels. Rita was also known for her skills in crocheting, her role as a devoted homemaker, and her love for lighthouses.
Her personal life was filled with joy and love, especially shared with her high school sweetheart, Leon Schwab. Their love story began in their youth when Rita was a clerk at a pharmacy and Leon was a delivery boy at just age 14. The two loved their movie dates together and playing cards with Leon’s family. The two would pursue their personal goals- Rita in college and Leon in his Naval duties- before coming back together and celebrating their engagement on Christmas Eve. Her heart found its match in Leon Schwab; the two exchanged vows at St. Nick's Church in Wilkes Barre, PA on August 3, 1964 and were blessed with 56 years of marriage.
Rita is predeceased by her devoted husband, Leon; her parents Francis "Brownie" and Rita Brown, and brother Robert Brown.
Rita and Leon’s family grew to include five children: Gail, Jeanene, Leon Jr. (Jennifer), Gregory (Brooke), and Mark (Amy); and extended to fourteen grandchildren: Brittany, Jonathon, Cameron, Lauren, Hanna, Molly, Collin, Harly, Kylee, Amanda, Tristan, Kaitlyn, Jordyn, Mark. She was also the Great Mom-Mom to two little boys: Mason & Dean. She is also remembered by her brother Paul Brown.
In remembrance of Rita F. Schwab, let us bow our heads in reverence for her life—a humble reflection of God's grace, a vessel of His boundless love, and a guardian of His wondrous creation. Her legacy, a mosaic of faith and love, shall forever be cradled in the hearts of those she touched.
