

Robert J. McCartney of Levittown passed peacefully on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at St. Mary Medical Center. He was 78. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. McCartney has been a resident of Levittown for the past 43 years. He was a member of Queen of the Universe parish where he was active in the choir. He was also a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Middletown Senior Citizens. Mr. McCartney was a science teacher at Neshaminy High School for 28 years until retiring in 1998 and prior to that worked as a research chemist for 10 years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker Council #4215, 3rd degree. He enjoyed photography, reading, gardening and traveling. He also enjoyed writing, and was frequently published in the guest opinion section of the Bucks County Courier Times. Mr. McCartney was the beloved husband of Agnes T. (McGuinn) McCartney for 54 years. He was the loving father of Lorraine M. Takacs (James) of Newtown and Robert P. McCartney of Levittown. He was the devoted grandfather of Christopher McCartney and Danny, Billy and Caroline Takacs. He will also be missed by his sister Anne Deasey. Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Rd., Levittown, PA 19056 where his funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Rite of Committal will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Universe Church.
