Growing up in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia, Rosemarie was proudly the youngest of seven children born to Italian-immigrant parents, the late Joseph Cimino and Filomena Stelluto Cimino. She graduated from St. Hubert's High School in 1955, where she majored in music.
Rosemarie and her late husband, James F. McMahon, met as teenagers and were married for 61 happy years. Settling in Levittown, PA, they raised their family of six in a relaxed home rooted in simple values and togetherness. As a mother, Rosemarie was both tender-hearted and fierce--a true matriarch.
In the 1980's Rosemarie worked part-time at Pomeroy's in the toy and candy departments. Later, she was a secretary for two decades with the New Jersey Education Association, where she retired in 2004.
Throughout her life, music served at the center of Rosemarie's joy. She was an expressive pianist and vocalist. She found deep purpose playing the church organ, especially for funerals, which she described as her "labor of love."
For 40 years Rosemarie served as minister of liturgical music and organist at many churches in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, and most recently at Queen of the Universe Parish in Levittown. For 30 years she also served as chapel organist at St. Mary Medical Center in Langhorne.
Besides her parents and husband, Rosemarie was predeceased by her son, James F. McMahon, Jr. and her Cimino siblings, Dominic, Joseph, Louis, Victoria, Dante and Johnny. She is survived by her children, Mary Ann May (John), Barbara Hare (Douglas), Stephen McMahon (Victoria), and daughter-in-law, Denise Fullam McMahon; grandchildren, JT May, Lauren Long (Aaron), Zachary May (Brittny), David and Christian Hare, Isabella, Jack and Stephen McMahon, and Lonnie Dearing; great-grandchildren, Audriana, Aaron and Alexander Long, Nora May; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
The McMahon family thanks the dedicated team at Penn Medicine Hospice, who provided excellent care to both Rosemarie and her husband, Jim, during their brief illnesses in tandem.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 9:30 to 10:15 am at Queen of the Universe Church, 2443 Trenton Rd., Levittown, PA, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Rosemarie's name may be made to Queen of the Universe Parish.
