Born on December 3, 1943 in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Stanley F. and Margaret Gallagher Nelson. A long time resident of Levittown, he moved to Perryopolis, PA when US Steel shut down the rolling division to retire as an electrician from US Steel Clairton Works.
He was also a veteran of the US Navy having served in the Vietnam War.
He was survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra Haught Nelson, who suddenly passed away the following day, October 10, 2020.
Surviving are his son, Michael Nelson (Shelby); daughter, Jennifer Smythe (Phil); three grandchilden, Justin Nelson, Alyssa Fate and Jacob Nelson; two brothers and sisters-in-law, David and Marla Nelson of Georgia and Jack and Dorothy Nelson of Neshaminy, PA.
He is preceded in death by his daughter, Sherri Nelson and a brother, Thomas Nelson.
Family and friends are invited to call on Saturday, October 17, 2020, from 9:00 until 10:00 am at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his and his devoted wife's funeral service will be held at 10:00 am.
