Stephen was born on August 25th, 1967 at Lower Bucks Hospital in Bristol, PA to his parents Hank and Carol (nee Spezzano). Steve, as he was known to most, grew up in Levittown, PA and graduated from Pennsbury High School in 1985. Steve studied photography at the University of the Arts before becoming an accomplished carpenter and electrician working in the construction field for much of his life.
Full of energy as a child, he enjoyed Cub Scouts, drawing and reading Fantasy/Science Fiction novels. In Cub Scouts, Steve met his oldest and dearest friend Chris who he'd reconnect with in middle school when they bonded over his biggest passion Dungeons and Dragons. Steve would meet with close friends every week for campaigns that would last several months. He was very creative, devoting hours of his time to drawing maps, creating storylines, painting figurines or crafting something for these weekly sessions for almost 40 years.
Steve loved any type of commemoration, he'd carve elaborate pumpkins on Halloween and Thanksgiving, color the most original Easter eggs and his gift giving and wrapping were in a league of their own. Steve also loved spending time with family, especially in the summer when they’d gather for many birthdays, holidays, and board game nights. He would love to chat about his favorite shows and movies such as Star Trek, Star Wars, Game of Thrones and anything Marvel and DC. He loved astronomy, history, and reading about technology and the sciences. He was a walking military history resource especially regarding the Civil War and World War II and loved trips to Fort Sumter, Gettysburg and other historical sites often knowing as much as the tour guides. He rooted for all Philadelphia sports teams and loved going to games and movies with his family. He whistled while he worked, sang in the shower and woke each morning bearing neither a grudge or ill will to yesterday’s lament.
To many who knew Steve, he was the soul of their group. He lived life with a laid back demeanor that put everyone around him at ease. His smile and laughter are remembered by his loving friends and family who miss him dearly.
Steve is survived by his loving partner Michael Moree, his children Jamie Macellaro (Nathan), Nicholas Macellaro and Ryan Macellaro, his mother Carol Gladstone (Irwin), and his sister Tara Focht (Zach) in addition to his oldest friend Chris “Oppenheim” Williamson, and most beloved cat Noodle.
Steve is preceded in death by his father Hank (Arlene) Macellaro.
A memorial gathering for Steve will be held on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm, at James J. Dougherty Funeral Home at 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056.
