A proud native of Florence, NJ, Tom loved attending games at "the Pit" and was a Florence Flash in his high school days. A born storyteller, with an encyclopedic memory and the Irish gift of gab, Tom would tell anyone and everyone about his days growing up in Florence, including stories that cannot be repeated here.
Tom, a graduate of Rider University, went to work for Amtrak and eventually became the vice general chairman of the Transportation Communications Union. He then returned to Amtrak management, where he was a conflict resolution manager until his retirement in 2007. Tom was a lifelong railroad enthusiast who had the rare opportunity to work in a field he loved.
Tom was an avid lover of all things Motown, especially Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Tops, and some non-Motown too, including The Flamingos and The Mills Brothers. In a daring jump to modern music, he embraced Fleetwood Mac, Queen, and one Pink Floyd song.
One of the true loves of his life, for good or bad, was the Michigan Wolverines Football team. He became a rabid fan at the age of seven when he received his first winged Michigan helmet. When they won, life was good. When they lost, Tom could be known to hammer throw a lawn mower or set fire to a Michigan sweatshirt on the front porch. Over the years, Tom mellowed to the point where he enjoyed watching games with Patti and they made 15 trips to Ann Arbor. Together they would weather the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
What Tom loved the most, though, was spending time with his family, whether at DeLorenzo's pizza or a high-end Italian restaurant, hosting holiday dinners, or best of all a party at home on the deck, preferably with a good bottle of Barolo. His daughter, Kelly inherited his love of old movies, making lists, and an encyclopedic knowledge of random trivia that no one appreciated more than the two of them. In his later years, Pop Pop Tom spent countless hours on FaceTime, dressed up in costumes, and playing in imaginary wonderlands with his beloved granddaughter, Gabrielle.
All of this would have been cut short by more than a decade, had it not been for the selfless gift of a kidney from his brother, Bob. Tom, more than anyone, was grateful for the extra time with his soulmate, Patti, with whom he spent the happiest years of his life.
He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Patricia Finn, his daughter, Kelly Finn (Boris Zavertailo), his stepdaughter, Deborah Green (Joshua France) and granddaughter, Gabrielle France. Further survived by his brother, Robert Finn (Ann), and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Caroline "Jayne" Finn and Joseph Finn, and his stepson, Dennis Green.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, August 19, 2022 from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, where his funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm. Interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Tom's honor can be made to The Rescue Express in Media, PA (https://therescueexpress.org/home-page) or Redeemer Lutheran Church in Penndel, PA (http://redeemerlutheranpenndel.org/)
