

Thomas F. Rooney died on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Delaware Valley Veterans Home in Philadelphia. He was 88. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Rooney was raised in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He was an original Levittown homeowner and member of the former Immaculate Conception Parish prior to moving to Falls Township in 1988. He is a current member of Holy Trinity Parish, Morrisville. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II and fought in the invasion of Normandy and was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Liberte Medals. Mr. Rooney was a member of the Memorial Post #960 American Legion Levittown. Until his retirement in 1981, Mr. Rooney was a supervisor for the federal government, serving as the head of energy conservation for every Army Base in the US. He was the recipient of the President's Award for Energy Efficiency which was presented to him by President Jimmy Carter. Mr. Rooney was the former head of umpires for the Levittown International Little League. Beloved husband of nearly 65 years to Lucy R. (Tierno), Mr. Rooney was the loving father of Reverend Thomas J. of Morrisville, Susan Pritchett (Tony) of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Kathleen Burns of Newtown, Richard D. of West Chester, Brian J. of Smyrna, GA and the late Michael K. (Lori) of Levittown. He will also be sadly missed by his 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Mr. Rooney was preceded in death by 4 brothers. Family and friends are invited to call on Monday, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown. His funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday at 9:30 am at Holy Trinity Church, 201 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Morrisville, followed by Rite of Committal in Washington Crossing National Cemetery. There will be no calling hours on Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Mr. Rooney's name may be made to the Delaware Valley Veterans Home, 2701 Southampton Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154.
