Anita Violet Belanger

Anita Violet Belanger, age 88, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025 at Clover Manor where she was a resident for many years. She was born on February 18, 1937 in Macwahoc Plantation, Maine to parents George and Irene (Breton) Belanger.

Anita grew up in Maine and graduated from high school in Mattawamkeag in June 1955. A gifted athlete, she made her mark in basketball, earning a place in the State of Maine Basketball Hall of Fame. Known for her skill and determination on the court, Anita set records by averaging 55.6 points per game — a remarkable achievement that remains an inspiration.

On October 13, 1956, Anita married Ronald B. Cornoni in Meriden, Connecticut, and together they built a life filled with love, commitment, and cherished memories until his passing in 1985.

She is predeceased by her parents, her beloved husband Ronald and her son David G. Cornoni who passed in October of 2015 and her grandson Levi Blake Edwards who passed in 1992.

Anita leaves behind her children Robyn C. Edmunds of Greene, ME, Brenda M. Cornoni of Greene, ME, and Rhonda C. Edwards of Minot, ME. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Shawna R. Kincaide of Leesburg, VA, Jonathan B. Edmunds, and Randi C. Francis of Norway, ME as well as her great grandchildren Nakoa E. Edmunds of Leesburg, VA, Seven N. Kincaide of Leesburg, VA, QueenSamylah Kincaide of Leesburg, VA, Zora J. Edmunds, Atlas GB. Edmunds and Sadie R. Francis of Norway, ME, Levi E. Francis of Norway, ME. Among her many loved ones are: Samantha Baderschneider, John Q. Edmunds, Randy C. Edwards, Jimmy C. Francis and Casey Wright.

A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, October 11th, 2025 at Macwahoc Cemetery at 11:30AM.
