

Lewiston passed away peacefully Thursday morning, May 8th, at the Hospice
House following a brief illness.
Camille was predeceased by his wife, Pauline "Polly" Harriman. Camille
and Polly married in 1948 and together they raised four children: Ann
Gardner Brushwein, Nancy Gardner Smith, Carlton Gardner, and Patricia
Gardner Morgan. He was also blessed with five grandchildren: Sarah
Gardner, Daniel Morgan, Laura Gardner, and Caitlin and Shannon Morgan; as
well as sons-in-law, Kevin Morgan and Joe Smith, and daughter-in-law, Kim
Gardner.
Camille was born in East Angus, Quebec on March 5, 1922, the son of
Adelard and Anna (Theriault) Gardner. Camille had ten siblings. He is
predeceased by Martha, Laurent, Arsene, Laurette, Madeline, George, John,
and Reginald. He is survived by his two sisters Corrine and Alice. He
moved to Auburn at a young age where he attended school and was a 1940
graduate of Edward Little High School. While at Edward Little, Camille
was the recipient of the first Edward Little Alumni Scholarship and the
Westinghouse Scholarship at the National 4-H Congress in Chicago in 1941.
He was prominent in 4-H Club Activities at local and state levels.
Camille attended two years at the University of Maine, before receiving
his commissioned a Second Lt. at Yale University in 1944. Camille served
in the Army Air Corp in the China, Burma, India Campaign as a
communication and radar officer. He separated from active duty in 1946.
He then served ten years with the United States Air Force Reserve,
advancing to the rank of Major. Following the war, Camille continued his education and graduated from the
University of Pennsylvania in 1951 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine.
He practiced in Sanford for nine months and then purchased the veterinary
practice of Dr. Ed Moore in Lewiston in 1952. Camille owned the practice
until 1984 and continued semi-retirement until 1988. He was a member of
the American Veterinary Association, past president of the Maine
Veterinary Association, past president and long time member of the YMCA
Board of Directors, and past president and 36 year member of the Auburn
Lewiston Kiwanis Club.
In his free time, Camille was also an avid fisherman and hunter (although
he professed to not be very good at it), and an alpine skier. He and Otto
Wallingford were co-founders of the Lost Valley Ski Area. He was active
at Lost Valley until they sold the resort in 1988. As an active member of the Lewiston Community and beloved father and

Burial will be held privately at the Maine Veteran’s Cemetery, Augusta.
