Christiane A. Veilleux

LEWISTON- Christiane A. Veilleux, 88, of Lewiston died Monday January 10, 2011 at D'Youville Pavilion with her family by her side. She was born in Lewiston, Maine on August 13, 1922 the 5th of ten children to Joseph and Aurore (Landry) Pelletier, in the home that Joseph had built two years before at 111 Prospect Avenue in Lewiston, Maine. She was an excellent student and graduated at the age of 12 from Holy Cross parochial school. Her plans to attend high school were cut short with her mother's illness, requiring that she become the homemaker for the home and family. She married Rosaire Veilleux on September 30, 1944. In 1948, they purchased her childhood home from her father, where she lived until her health required her to leave her life-long home in 2001. She was a gifted and talented individual and always took much pride in all she did. She was a master seamstress and quilter and had the ability to bring beauty out of very little. The family continues to enjoy her creations. She enjoyed music, singing, the seashore and flowers and birds. She was a faith filled woman and was very active in her parish activities, serving as cantor, pastoral care minister, choir, and beautifying the church space. She served as president of the Ladies of St. Anne and Ladies of Charity and was named Mother of the Year in 1970. She is survived by her four children Christine (Laurier) Lachance of Lewiston, Ginette (Frank) Consentino of Palm Coast, FL., Donat (Doris) of Lewiston and Rene and partner Larry Mann of Auburn; five grandchildren Claire Lachance, Laurie Lavertu, Amy Charest, David and Derek Veilleux; six great grandchildren Grace, Carter, Chloe, Andrew, Gavin and Emily. two brothers Louis Pelletier of Roseville, CA. and Rosaire Pelletier of Sun City, AZ.She was predeceased by her parents; her husband on December 11, 2003; five brothers Lucien, Donat, Fernand, Philippe and Gerard Pelletier; and by two sisters Cecile Hagopian and Rita Gregoire. A Funeral Mass honoring Christiane's life will be celebrated on Thursday at 10AM at Holy Cross Church. Committal prayers will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
