

AUBURN - Elaine Shirley Penley Ordway, 77, has passed on to our Lords embrace after a long illness at Clover Manor on Tuesday September 14th, 2010. Elaine was bornSeptember 10th, 1933 in Auburn to Arthur I. Penley, Turner, and Annie M. GodingPenley Verrill, Auburn. She graduated from Edward Little High School in 1951 andworked at the House of Old Moleneaux in Boston after graduation. Elaine married inAugust 1952 to Eugene C. Ordway- USN, Laredo, TX and had two sons, Lawrence andScott. They traveled around the country during Eugene's Commission in the Navy.Elaine settled, resided, and raised her sons in Glen Burnie, MD where she workedfor the State of Maryland, Department of Agriculture for 20 years. She retired after 20years in 1994 and returned to Turner to live out her retirement years and be close to herfamily. Elaine was a member of the Auburn/Turner Royal Red Hatters and an activeparticipant of the Turner Village Church where she enjoyed working in the ChurchNursery. She served as Treasurer of the Penley Comer Church Foundation for manyyears and assisted in the planning of the annual July service. Elaine enjoyed traveling tothe Amish Country with her friends each spring. She was a collector of dolls, enjoyedreading, and was masterful at dry flower arranging. Elaine is survived by her brother, Maurice Penley and his wife Lorraine, Auburn;her sister Joy Gaskas and her husband Bob, Winsted, CT; her two sons, Lawrence E.Ordway and his wife Denise, Manchester, MD; Scott E. Ordway and his wife Melissa,Merrimack, NH; her two grandchildren, Jennie Ordway McShane, Hanover, P A; EricOrdway, Hampstead, MD; four great grandchildren; her nieces, Maureen Penley Poisson,Jay; Marcia Penley Bray, Amston, CT; and her nephew, Jay Penley, Hartford.Elaine was our beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend and she will be missed byall who have been touched by her.
