Eugene R. Langlais, 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 23rd, with his family by his side. One of 15 children, he was born on January 20th, 1933, in Hamlin Plantation, Maine, to the late Denis and Melvina (Roy) Langlais. His siblings included 11 sisters: Georgette Reny, Mary Langlais, Simone Emond, Blanche Legendre, Pauline Thibault, Lucille Dehetre, Yvette Roux, Jeannine Poulin, Doreen Lebrun, and infant twins Rolande and Yolande; 3 brothers: Arthur Langlais, George Langlais, and Roderick Langlais.
On August 8th, 1953, he married the love of his life, Jeannette R. Blais, in Lewiston at Holy Cross Church.
Eugene was educated at St. Peter’s Elementary School and attended both St. Dominic and Lewiston High Schools. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. He was a Third Degree Knight with the local Knights of Columbus and was an active member of Holy Cross Church.
Eugene worked as a milk delivery man for the family business, Blais Dairy, for 8 years. He then worked for St. Mary’s and Marcotte Home managing the laundry department for 20 years. He finished his career working in real estate in the Lewiston area, remodeling and upgrading apartment buildings with his brother, George and brother-in-law’s Bob Lagasse and Ray Dehetre.
Eugene was a strong and hardworking man who gave everything he had to his family. He was a man with great faith and was active in the church, school, and sport(s) community. You could always count on him to share great stories of his childhood “the dead-end kids,” his strong handshakes, traveling and dancing with Memere, and enjoying time with his family and friends. He was always willing to help anyone in need, and never expected anything in return.
