

AUBURN: Fernand G. Lapointe, 85, of Lewiston passed away on Tuesday morning at the Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice surrounded by his family. He was born in Auburn at home on March 24, 1927 a son of the late George and Malvina (Daniel) Lapointe. He grew up in the Auburn area and attended Auburn schools. From 1944 to 1946, Fern served his nation during World War II as a veteran of the United States Navy. On July 5, 1952 he married his wife Carmen (Lachance) Lapointe at St. Mary's Church in Lewiston. Fern was a co-founder of Lapointe’s Esso which later became L&A Tire Co. He later founded Lapointe’s Lawn and Garden Center in Lewiston. Fern was a proud member of the American Legion and Holy Family Church as well as Canado Americain. He also was a past member of the Holy Family Seniors Golf League, The Knights of Columbus and L’association St. Joseph. Fern enjoyed golfing, tennis, hunting, fishing, and gatherings with family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Carmen “Cal” of Lewiston, 6 children Susan Masse and her husband Robert of Lewiston, Nancy Castonguay and her husband Denis of Lewiston, Joline Pelletier and her husband Gary of Wales, Denise Dugas and her husband Dan of Jackman, Jane (Lapointe) Audet and her companion Joey Card of Monmouth and Paul F. Lapointe and his wife Donna of Wales. He also leaves behind a brother, Harry and his wife Lauretta of Lewiston as well as his 13 grandchildren; Alison (Masse) Casey, Derek, Kevin & Renee Castonguay, Jonathan Pelletier, Danny & Duane Dubois, Joshua, Ryan & Lacey Audet, Eric, Kelsey, & Adam Lapointe; three great-grandchildren; Katryn & Kayla Dubois & Kaley Audet and many nieces and nephews. Fern was predeceased by 2 sisters, Florence Proctor and Lucille Lapointe and a brother Armand Lapointe The family wishes to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the entire staff of the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice House for their support, understanding and devotion during this difficult time.
Visiting hours will be held at Fortin\Lewiston on Friday from 6pm to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday at Holy Family Church at 9am. A Committal service and military honors will follow at St.Peter’s Cemetery.
