

LEWISTON: Florence “Gigi” Belanger, 96, of Lewiston passed away Saturday August 22 at her home at Maison Marcotte. She was born in Lewiston on December 4, 1918 a daughter of the late Alfred and Alice (Pelletier) Goyette. She grew up in the Greene area and attended local schools there. In 1940 she married Alfred Belanger at Our Lady of the Rosary Church in Sabattus. For over 30 years Gigi worked at Knapp Shoe until her retirement. She will always be remembered for her enjoyment of volunteering in the cafeteria at St. Dom’s Academy, formerly Holy Cross School as well as spending quality time with her family, especially her great grandchildren. She was actively involved at Maison Marcotte. She joined daily exercise classes and as many social functions as possible. Walking was always part of her daily routine and she loved to shop at the Dollar Tree. She is survived by her children; Arline Stephan and her husband Bernie, Norm Belanger and his wife Ruthie and Irene Lemelin. She also leaves behind her six grandchildren and her eleven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alfred Belanger; her brothers, Robert and Daniel; her sisters, Carmen, Doris, Theresa and Annette; and a son-in-law, Larry Lemelin. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday August 27 at Fortin\Lewiston from 5-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Cross Church on Friday August 28 at 11am followed by committal prayers at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston.
